about Boda Drivers....

January 28, 2014
Today was really frustrating! It starting in the morning and carried out through the day. First we left for projects; me, Steph and Brad were in one group, Kenny, Rachel, Ashton and Marisa in the other. In my group we went to Cure Hospital first, i guess we didnt make any plans with them to come or anything so we just left our contact info and left. Then walked to Regional Hospital, it was SOOO hot today! Had to try back later there too, we had no secure plans there either… Then off to Budaka health clinic. We got on bodes- said they wii;d take us to Budaka town, we drove from 2-3mins, then they started saying they wouldn't take us there, to take a taxi. They pulled over- not at a taxi park and asked to be paid. Rude! I was going to walk away and not pay them, what they did in not what wee agreed to, but Brad being the nicer guy decided to pay them 500 shillings. Then crammed unto an over stuffed taxi for 40min to Budaka and met with Dimma at the clinic, told her our project ideas, set some goals with them, got the info for the department of health and set a time to come back and start helping! A truck and a taxi driver got into a fight of who we would ride with and we got pushed out of the way, so we waled away and a taxi came driving by us later. Went back to Regional and got things set up. Went shopping for fruit and lunch, then went home and SLEPT! It was a rough day so me and Steph decided to go to the church building and play piano and sing hymns. It made the day a million times better. The caustics in the primary room were beautiful! People showed up 3-4 toward the end and asked us to help them sing/play piano and were joking around etc it just made everything better! Met a guy in our ward named Isaac, he's African, but with  BLUE EYES!! FHE was the funnest volleyball game i have ever played, LOVED IT!

CornRows

I was looking forward to getting my hair braided in cornrows when i got to Africa.  we all had a plan to go get our hair done, then go to the resort in town to swim in the pool and suntan.  we got to the shop negotiated the price and the man said it would take a couple hours.  I was the last one to get finished like 5 HOURS later, and I couldn't find anyone.  I rode a boda to the resort, no one, rode the boda back to hair salon, no one, had the boda take me back to the casa and only Rachel was there so i had to borrow money to pay the boda... oh ya did i mention that they left me with no money, no id, NOTHING.  I was pretty ticked.  So the day ended up being a total bust except for my awesome cornrows!

waiting in the salon.

Cure Hospital

Got to shadow at Cure Hospital today, and it was the best thing i have done thus far. I got to help in the NICU with the hydro insefalidous (sp?) and spinabifidus (sp?) baby patients, reconfirms how much i want to go into critical care nursing. It was definitely a spiritual experience getting to comfort those Children of God at Cure Hospital while they were in pain and just out of surgery. My favorite little boy, Junior has hydro - fluid in the brain that has to be drained, they get really large heads. He loved it when i would rub his arms like my mom did to me when i was little, and if i stopped hed open his eyes back up to make sure i was there, and let me know not to stop.. haha I loved that little boy! Today was probably the best day ive had here, we had a bit of a moment this week with our team, and this morning we talked, prayed as a group, went to our projects, went to FHE and just sang hymns with the keyboard, and got blessings from the missionaries. I was worried for a minute there, and after this morning, today, I just love my team, love being here, love that were able to share being LDS and love that i can so easily access the priesthood when needed! Steph Sogla Marisa Brewerton Brad Talk Ashton Rachel Wade Kenny Scoresby
